AHAWF marketing + February update
Hi, Steven here!
What's been going on?
Since the release of the demo, I've taken a week away from the project to try to get the word out a bit about the project, trying various marketing tactics to try to get the word out about the game, with the goal of generating a little bit of hype.
Needless to say, it didn't work.
And that's okay! The odds are stacked against me, here:
- Visual novels are a highly saturated genre due to how approachable they are to first time game devs, so there's a huge amount of competition.
- Visual novels are also generally an unpopular media
- I am inexperienced in both game design AND marketing.
- the world at the moment has an incredibly short attention span, and it's difficult to get people to care about this game in 5 to 6 seconds.
The game is getting made, regardless, it's just difficult to find the fans that I know exist, but just can't reach. Perhaps, I'm posting in the wrong places, or posting the wrong things, or maybe this project is a little overzealous. Either way, only time will tell :) If you have any suggestions, feel free to shoot them here! I've tried:
- reaching out to streamers and YouTubers
- posting frequently about the game on social media
- advertising on discord servers for game devs and indie fans.
February update!
Now that the demo is out, I'm putting all of my free time into the game itself. It's coming along nicely! The biggest update I have is that navigation segments are working perfectly as intended. Navigation and exploration will be limited in the beginning of the game, but as time continues, you will be able to explore more areas, discover secret dialogue, and secret events as well!
